Although many of our students are good at learning facts, they seem to need experience in applying them. For several years, now, in Liverpool we have been using problem-based learning as a way of helping students engage with scientific material - both in the medical curriculum and in the biomedical sciences. We will look at some examples, and discuss the merits and disadvantages of the PBL approach.
