Introduction: Nasal x-rays are likely to miss nearly 50% of nasal fractures whilst old fractures, vascular markings and suture lines can lead to false-positive results. In addition, cartilaginous injury is not detected radiologically. The objective of this paper is to detection the causes' frequency of nasal x-ray film requests in patients who reffered with nasal trauma from the viewpoint of physicians in the year of 2010 in Kermanshah and Tehran`s hospitals, educational and private centers.

Methods: This study was a descriptive study. Our samples were 190 general physicians who attended in hospitals, educational and private centers. 200 questionnaires were sent out and 190 were returned. Data was analyzed using SPSS software (13th.version) and Chi-square test.

Findings: In 74.2%, x-ray was requested in patients with the perior history of cosmetic nasal surgery. There was a significant correlation between old nasal fracture, medicolegal reasons and perior history of cosmetic nasal surgery with requesting of x-ray films (P-value<0.01) but no correlation with sexuality of physicians or type of center (private vs. educational).

Results: The results showed that frequency of nasal x-ray film requests in patients who reffered with nasal trauma is almost high.

Our suggestion is emphasis on a complete physical exam rather than unnecessary radiological studies to diagnosis and management of nasal trauma.
